Objectives
Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA)
This TWG is responsible for developing and updating its thematic Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). This document serves as the roadmap for regional research, aligning macro-regional priorities with national bioeconomy Action Plans.
For the TWG on Bioenergy & New Value-Added Materials, the SRIA defines research and innovation priorities for sustainable bioenergy, biomass valorisation, and new value-added bio-based materials, supporting circular value chains and industrial symbiosis.
Key activities
The activities of this TWG are centred around the following research and innovation pillars:
- Organising science–policy dialogues and stakeholder engagement activities on bioenergy and new value-added materials
- Supporting the organisation of the annual BIOEAST Bioeconomy Conference and thematic events
- Development, implementation, and update of the TWG Roadmap and Terms of Reference (ToR)
- Updating the Bioenergy & New Value-Added Materials thematic SRIA through macro-regional workshops, national consultations, and validation workshops
- Promoting knowledge exchange, cross-sector collaboration, and dissemination of good practices across the BIOEAST macro-region

- Update of the Bioenergy & New Value-Added Materials Thematic SRIA (2026)
- Organisation of two Science-Policy Dialogues:
- 27 November 2024 – Bioenergy Smart Choices in Difficult Times: Choice of Technology – Depending on the Level of Development and Prices
- 27 March 2026 – Bioenergy Smart Choices in Difficult Times: Bioenergy and Non-Fossil Materials as a Dimension of National Security in Times of Crisis
- Contribution to the organisation of the annual BIOEAST Bioeconomy Conferences
- Strengthening macro-regional cooperation and stakeholder engagement in sustainable bioenergy and new value-added materials
- Supporting the development of research and innovation priorities aligned with national Bioeconomy Action Plans
