Barna Kovács presented the acitivites of the BIOEAST Initiative to enhance the transition to sustainable development, Biljana Kulišič and Markus Lier presented the results of an analysis of the evidence based policy. Magdalena Borzecka introduced the Bioeconomy Platform as an inspiring tool how to support bioeconomy development, Marie Kubankova introduced the first national bioeconomy HUB in the BIOEAST region focused on the stakeholders’ engagement and the bottom up support for bioeconomy in the Czech Republic.

JOINT PEER REVIEW AND BACKGROUND NETWORK FOR THE NEW THEMATIC WORKING GROUP

BIOEASTsUP project organized a combined Hungarian and Bulgarian peer reviews that disused the good practice of the Technology transfer provided by Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture and two case study technology transfer projects and value chains enhanced by the Bulgarian Agriculture Academy.
The Ministry of Agriculture is providing a financial support for the implementation of bioeconomy solution. The background network for the new BIOEAST Thematic Working Biochemicals was introduced.

BIOEAST FORESEIGHT CONFERENCE

The high-level BIOEAST Foresight Conference on positioning sustainable and circular bioeconomies in Central and Eastern Europe to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 was organised on 27 September 2021 under the auspices of the Slovenian EU Council and the Hungarian Visegrad Group presidencies.

BIOEAST dynamic search engine

BIOEAST dynamic search engine of regional stakeholders’ database was established as a unique online stakeholder platform for the BIOEAST macro region. This platform will promote and involve stakeholders from the BIOEAST macro region in international projects, such as Horizon EUROPE or CBE-JU. Technology Transfer Handbook of Good Practice

Technology Transfer Handbook of Good Practice was issued that summarizes good practice and peers’ recommendation on how to enhance collaboration of research organisations, stakeholders and practice on transfer and adoption of bioeconomy innovations in line with the AKIS concept.

The need to “bioeconomizing” the education system

The need to “bioeconomizing” the education system in the Central and Easter Europe that is a crucial condition for the transformation toward sustainable and resilience bioeconomy in the BIOEAST macro region – this is one of the key message on the 2nd workshop “Promoting education, training and skills across the EU bioeconomy” organised online by Deloitte, Empirica and Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini together with the European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation

A series of thematic studies were published in the seven areas of the BIOEAST Thematic Working Groups

The Thematic Working Group Agroecology has its own library and document of the dedicated web page, I discovered that in the Water and Education do not have this session. Would that be possible to upload the Thematic Study and the leaflet of the Water and Education TWG into the session.

High level panel discussion

High level panel discussion focused on working together with Member States, regional networks and key stakeholders dedicated to the new EU Mission  Restore our Ocean and Waters: a lighthouse for the Danube river was organised during the European Research and Innovation Days 2022 on 29th September 2022.  Barna Kovács, presented the BIOEAST Initiative and the Thematic Working Group Fresh Water Bioeconomy  enabling policy makers and experts  to tackle the emerging issues connected with fresh water together.

Workshop designed to connect EU projects focused on bioeconomy was organised by the EuBioNet together with several running projects – Transition2Bio, BIOgovNet, BIObec and BIOEASTsUP.  The workshop enabled excellent opportunities for project teams to learn from each other, exploit results and join forces in enhancing the transition to bioeconomy in the EU.

The Session 6 of the High Level EU Bioeconomy Conference zoomed in on how regional development and cohesion policy could enhance the  development of a sustainable and circular bioeconomy, with a special focus given to the BIOEAST region.

The High-Level EU Bioeconomy Conference 

dedicated to the Progress Report of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy took place on 6th & 7th October 2022. A clear support for the BIOEAST macro region was clearly articulated. 

THREE SUB-REGIONAL VALIDATION WORKSHOPS OF BIOEAST STRATEGIC RESEARCH AND INNOVATION AGENDA

The first workshop took place in Ljubljana /Slovenia/ for South Eastern Europe on 26 September 2022; the second in Tartu /Estonia/ for the Baltic States on 12 October 2022 and the third in Warsaw /Poland/ for Central and Eastern Europe between 25-26 October 2022. Wide spectrum of stakeholders got involved (altogether with more than 100 participants), they belong to the agenda of several ministries – agriculture, environment, research and innovation, transport and also internal affairs. The outcome of the stakeholder discussions at the workshops will be taken into account for the final preparation of the BIOEAST SRIA.

BIOEASTSUP PROJECT PARTNER MEETING

The BIOEASTsUP project partner meeting was held in Sofia, between 16-18 November 2022 to discuss the remaining tasks before the end of the project in March 2023.

INVOLVING THE BIOEAST INITIATIVE INTO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EU MISSION: RESTORE OUR OCEAN AND WATERS BY 2030

A successful high-level international conference was organised in Prague during the Czech EU Presidency on the 7th of December 2022. The highlevel representatives of minsitries from the Danube Region countries were assured by the European Commission’s representatives that the EU
Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030 will provide resources, specifically the Danube Lighthouse could solve emerging issues and could offer solutions on freshwater related challenges, but a strong macro-regional commitment is necessary.

BIOECONOMY EDUCATION: A BIOEAST PERSPECTIVE setting the BIOEAST Universities Network

BIOEAST Board and its thematic working group initiated the BIOEAST University Network that was established in Prague on 8th December 2022 on the international conference Bioeconomy education A BIOEAST perspective when six universities from Central and Eastern Europe signed a memorandum of understanding.

BIOEAST Congress

On 15-16 March 2023 in Warsaw during a high level, BIOEAST Congress was presented a macro-regional strategic research and innovation agenda and eleven national concept papers for bioeconomy strategies. The agenda sets common priorities on research and innovation for the better valorisation of our biological resources, while the 11 concept papers analyses the potential of national bioeconomies and propose further tailormade development possibilities.
