This research paper presents a comparative situational analysis of the state of agroecology in European countries within the BIOEASTmacro-region. A general focus was to gain a better understanding of necessary conditions for upscaling the adoption of agroecological practices in the 11 BIOEAST countries. The research was dedicated to comparing established sets of internationally recognized indicators from agricultural, environmental and social fields related to agroecology, and discussing their applicability in the region, in addition to their limitations, with the end goal of describing a supplemental framework of indicators which have specific relevance in BIOEAST countries. The study contributed to the BIOEAST Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of 2022.
