National Bioeconomy HUB meeting: From Vision to Action

On 28 January 2026, a meeting of the National Bioeconomy HUB titled “From Vision to Action” took place at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic. The event brought together representatives of public administration, research, practice, as well as emerging start-ups.

The aim of the meeting was to present analytical outputs in the field of biomass, engage in an interactive discussion on barriers across different bioeconomy sectors, and use these insights to inform the development of national strategic documents.

From Data to Decisions

A key focus of the event was on the outputs of the REPowerEU initiative, implemented by the National Agricultural and Food Centre:

  • A map of production potential for biogas and biomethane
  • Technology catalogues for biogas and biomethane plants (BPS/BMS)
  • Solutions for soil and the efficient use of organic fertilisers

These outputs provide an analytical basis for further strategic decision-making and for the preparation of the Bioeconomy Roadmap at the Ministry level.

Innovation in Practice

The event also showcased concrete examples of innovative solutions in practice, including Drž hubu, a start-up working with mycelium as a sustainable material, and Woolstyle, focusing on processing sheep wool into value-added products.

These inspiring examples demonstrate the potential of the bioeconomy to connect innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability.

The event in Slovakia is seen as an important step towards building a bioeconomy based on the valorisation of domestic renewable resources.
