The Hungarian BIOEAST HUB, coordinated by Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), the HUN-REN Centre for Natural Sciences (TTK), and the Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI), was officially established on September 5, 2024. Established under the framework of the BOOST4BIOEAST project, this initiative aims to emerge as a dynamic platform for advancing Hungary’s bioeconomy by bringing together key stakeholders from government, industry, research institutions, and civil society.
The HUB’s primary mission is to engage these diverse stakeholders, identify research and innovation needs, and generate new projects that can drive the bioeconomy forward. Moreover, it will facilitate the exchange of information and develop recommendations for policymakers to facilitate the development of effective national strategies. The Hungarian HUB is structured into seven sectoral mirror groups, reflecting the international BIOEAST Thematic Working Groups, to support the alignment of national and international efforts.
Four such groups were launched at the kick-off meeting: the Agroecology, Food Systems, Bio-based Materials, and Education Mirror Groups. This event marked a significant milestone, with around 60 Hungarian participants joining dozens of international experts at the BiPoCo 2024 international conference to discuss stakeholder expectations and set the direction for the HUB’s future. We are hoping that this is only the beginning of a long journey of advancing Hungary’s sustainable bioeconomy through collaboration.
