On Monday, June 3, 2024, a meeting of the HUB for bioeconomy took place in the Centre for Business Training (CPU). The event, coordinated through the frameworks of the BIOEAST, CEE2ACT, and BIOLOC projects, was further enriched by the international dimension brought by our collaboration with the Circular Biobased Europe – Joint Undertaking (CBE-JU) in collaboration with the CBE-JU Info Day 2024.
The event was the best occasion to announce the joint strategic collaboration of the above-mentioned projects that will be steering the hub’s activities for the upcoming years. The governance of the hub comprises Circular Change (a leading circular economy organisation), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Anteja Consulting (a private bioeconomy consulting company), and the Chamber of Economy.
The primary focus was on public finance for circular biobased solutions, a crucial area for advancing Slovenia’s bioeconomy. Based on this, stakeholders shared their views to help the HUB understand better their needs and how we could better match public funding with circular biobased initiatives on the ground.
We were delighted to see more than 50 attendees at the event, representing a diverse range of sectors including businesses, public institutions, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and academia. This broad participation underscores the widespread interest and commitment to advancing Slovenia’s bioeconomy.
Key Interventions
The event was opened with key interventions from Ms. Vesna Nahtigal, Director of the Chamber of Economy, and Mr. Ervin Kosi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Their insights set a strong foundation for the discussions that followed, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in driving the bioeconomy forward.
The event also featured an engaging roundtable discussion with key experts including Ladeja Godina Košir, Mateja Dermastija, Lea Lavrič, Blaž Likozar, Giorgio Mirri, and Prof. Luka Juvančič. The discussion covered vital topics, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges facing Slovenia in the realm of bioeconomy. The experts shared their insights on where the greatest potential lies and how to overcome existing obstacles.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce a second event scheduled for September, which will focus on private finance for circular biobased solutions. We are confident that these events will continue to drive momentum and foster collaboration among key stakeholders in Slovenia’s bioeconomy sectors.
