Bioeconomy Innovation Week – International Cooperation to Boost Bioeconomy in the BIOEAST Region

Three days of inspiring workshops took  part from the 3rd – 5th March 2021 and it was organised in the cooperation of the Power4BIO and the BIOEASTsUP project. This on-line event had six sections that were dedicated to the potential and development of bioeconomy in the BIOEAST region, they demonstrated  international projects that supports bioeconomy development.

The conference introduced BIOEAST Initiative and its role in the support of development of national bioeconomy strategies in the BIOEAST Region, the Thematic Working Groups to tackle the common issues and provide thematic SRIA and also the tools to mobilize stakeholders (i.e., National BIOEAST HUB CZ, Slovak Bioeconomy Cluster, Latvian Food Bioeconomy Cluster etc).

The discussions tackled various interesting topics, primarily the need to support resilience as the society may face climate changes. The presenters emphasised the need to transform to circular and sustainable utilisation of biomass, the increasing importance of local and national suppliers and the condition to provide both environmental and economical feasible solutions.

The cooperation across value chains was emphasised and the overall mobilisation and stakeholder engagement. Networking, exchange of good practice, mutual learning and trainings are vital for the Central and Easter Europe to speed up the bioeconomy transformation. The BIOEASTsUP project has launched on-line trainings and peer reviews based on technology transfer, that will continue in spring 2021.
