BIOEAST Science-Policy Dialogue: Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming in Forestry Sector
SAVE THE DATE: 29 JUNE 2026
The Forestry Value Chain Thematic Working Group of the BIOEAST Initiative, in the frame of the BOOST4BIOEAST project, will host an online science-policy dialogue on 29 June 2026, from 13:00 to 15:00 (CEST).
The focus of this online event is on the position of the forestry sector in the voluntary framework of carbon removals and carbon farming (CRCF) according to the Regulation (EU) 2024/3012 adopted by the European Commission (EC). Planned is a presentation of the general CRCF process and the forest-related methodologies, including harvested wood products. The discussion is expected on issues related to forest companies interested in entering the carbon market, storing carbon in wood products, options for certification, implications for forest management, associated opportunities, risks, costs, and benefits.
CRCF play a central role in achieving EU climate neutrality by extracting CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it safely and durably. The Regulation aims to develop a voluntary certification framework for permanent carbon removals, carbon farming and carbon storage in products, establishing EU quality criteria, laying down monitoring and reporting processes.
