Barna Kovács made a presentation on the 2nd workshop “Promoting education, training and skills across the EU bioeconomy” organised online by Deloitte, Empirica and Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini together with the European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation on the 26th April 2022.
Barna Kovács introduce the working bodies of the CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN INITIATIVE FOR KNOWLEDGE-BASED AGRICULTURE, AQUACULTURE AND FORESTRY IN THE BIOECONOMY – BIOEAST Initiative the thematic working groups (TWG) that tackle the macro regional issues of the Central and Easter EU. He introduced the challenges of the TWG Bioeconomy Education and Skills in particular the need to improve the collaboration between science and policy makers likewise the demand to find the key driving force to keep the activities of the TWG alive. Barna Kovacs announced the publication of the Thematic study focused on gaps and challenges of the education system in the BIOEAST macro region. The Thematic Study was delivered with a support of the BIOEASTsUP H2020 project and will be available on the BIOEAST web pages in May 2022.
Barna Kovács introduced the outcomes of the Foresight Report, i.e. the scenarios in the context of education. The Foresight Report highlighted the structure problems in the BIOEAST macro region, the lack of human resources in higher education and research is one of the main bottlenecks to accomplishing the goals of the European Green Deal.
Barna Kovacs pointed out the necessity of the involvement of the policy makers, the need to “bioeconomizing” the education system in the Central and Easter Europe that is a crucial condition for the transformation toward sustainable and resilience bioeconomy in the BIOEAST macro region. The findings of both Foresight Study and Thematic Study of the BIOEAST TWG can serve and an input of the study “Promoting education, training and skills across the bioeconomy” that is being developed by Deloitte, Empirica and Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini for the European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation.
