Romanian Hub on Bioeconomy, Bioeconomy_RO-HUB, is dedicated to creating an integrated ecosystem that will support a knowledge-based framework for sustainable development, innovation and collaboration in Romania’s bioeconomy sectors. Bioeconomy_RO-HUB brings together entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and authorities to promote sustainable solutions that stimulate the circular bioeconomy, promote renewable technologies and capitalize on local biological resources to address major environmental challenges and to develop Romania’s economic competitiveness in the European Union.

Aligned with the BIOEAST Initiative’s mission, we aim to develop circular bioeconomies that promote inclusive growth and environmental sustainability by providing

  • A collaborative framework for development of strategic research and innovation agenda for Romanian Bioeconomy
  • Capacity Building and Education for bioeconomy
  • Facilitation of cooperation among stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders, to drive bioeconomy development.

Bioeconomy-related projects

  • BIOCAPITAL, “Mobilising investments for protecting and restoring biodiversity by harnessing innovative financial solutions and advanced geospatial analytics ” – One of the projects of Romanian hub, BIO-CAPITAL, is centered on a complex initiative focused on protecting biodiversity and fostering sustainable finance by combining advanced technology and ecological management practices. Through mapping policies, evaluating investment opportunities, and using geospatial analytics for monitoring, BIO-CAPITAL aligns private and public sector interests to promote biodiversity restoration. This will be done by designing ecosystem service payments, biodiversity-friendly financial products, and certification mechanisms. The project aims to attract private investment and drive ecological sustainability across diverse ecosystems.
  • BEAMING, “Bioeconomy excellence alliance for stimulating innovative and inclusive green transition “ – BEAMING is a Horizon Europe project under the WIDERA work programme which seeks to promote innovation and valorization of knowledge in the field of bioeconomy through cooperation between higher education institutions, with a special focus on widening countries in Central-Eastern Europe, South-Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans.
  • ADER 22.1.4, “Research on the development of technical-economic solutions for the creation of value chains in the agri-food sector in view of the transition to the circular bioeconomy” – The main objective of this project is the development of technical-economic solutions that facilitate the creation of value chains in the agri-food sector, thus supporting the transition to a circular bioeconomy. This approach aims to optimize the production processes and valorization of agri-food products, promoting the efficient use of resources and the reduction of waste, in accordance with the principles of the circular bioeconomy.
