The BIOEAST Thematic Working Group on Bioeconomy Education (TWG BE Edu), together with BIOEAST UniNet, will host a high-level Policy Expert Discussion on Bioeconomy Education on 10 December 2025 at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). The session will take place in hybrid format, allowing both onsite and online participation.

This event comes at a significant moment, following the publication of the new EU Bioeconomy Strategic Framework, which explicitly recognises BIOEAST UniNet as a key macro-regional actor in strengthening skills, capacity, and education across Central and Eastern Europe. Building on this momentum, the workshop will gather educators, policymakers, experts, and representatives of the European Commission to explore how the new Strategy can be effectively translated into national and regional education systems.

What to Expect

The Policy Expert Discussion will run from 09:00 to 11:55 (CET), structured into the following segments:

  • 09:00–09:10 – Welcome
  • 09:10–09:20 – Introduction to the Policy Expert Discussion
  • 09:20–09:30 – Tour de Table
  • 09:30–10:00 – Insights from European institutions and organisations
  • 10:00–10:20 – National policymakers’ perspectives from the BIOEAST macro-region
  • 10:20–10:30 – Continued policy reflections
  • 10:30–10:40 – Coffee break
  • 10:40–11:10 – Contributions from European academic alliances and expert networks
  • 11:10–11:25 – Interventions from BIOEAST TWG BE Edu members and BIOEAST UniNet
  • 11:25–11:55 – Discussion and conclusion

Purpose of the Dialogue

The workshop aims to:

  • Exchange policy experiences and best practices across the BIOEAST macro-region
  • Identify gaps, needs, and opportunities in bioeconomy-related education
  • Strengthen the connection between education, policy, and industry for skills development
  • Align regional initiatives with the new EU Bioeconomy Strategy 2025
  • Explore topics highlighted by TWG BE Edu, including (1) Integration of bioeconomy education into formal and informal learning pathways, (2) Opportunities linked to digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinary curricula, (3) Mechanisms to enhance science–policy–industry interfaces for the green transition, (4) Competences needed for sustainable entrepreneurship and circular economy models

The dialogue is open to policymakers, experts, researchers, educators, and stakeholders from the BIOEAST macro-region and beyond. The event will be held in English.
