On 21.5. 2020, the series of webinars organised by the BIOEASTsUP project was launched. The first seminar was tailored to a wide spectrum of participants aiming to introduce the BIOEAST Initiative and the BIOEASTsUP project supported under the H2020 program.
Participants discovered history, vision and strategic goals of the BIOEAST Initiative and activities to promote bioeconomy in the Central and Eastern Europe. BIOEASTsUP project was also introduced as a CSA H2020 project that supports the BIOEAST Initiative precisely the dialogue on the ministerial level, preparation of strategic and innovation agenda and also activities provided at the national level. The webinar was followed by more than 60 participants also outside of Europe.

- Barna Kovács is the Secretary General of the BIOEAST Initiative. He also works as a counselor at the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU.
- doc. Magdalena Borzęcka is a Associate Professor at the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation, Department of Bioeconomy and Systems Analysis – Project Coordinator
- doc. Jerzy Kozyra is an Associate Professor at the Department of Bioeconomy and Systems Analysis; Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – WP1 Leader
- Dr. Markus Lier LUKE is a Research Scientist at the Natural Resources Institute Finland – WP1 Co-leader
Each presentation was followed by a discussion of the audience. Apparently, participants were interested in, how to increase profitability of the agricultural sector as such. There is a need to support of domestic processing of biomass and the creation of a high added value product instead of pure export of biomass as a raw material. Of course, this transformation requires the involvement of business entities and the support of public administration in creating new business models. Engaging the public in the field of implementation of bioeconomy in individual BIOEAST states is the main task of national BIOeconomic HUBs. These BIO HUBs bring together national thematic groups focused on individual priorities of the bioeconomy according to the needs and wishes of national stakeholders.
